Inspiration From Mr Lee Kuan Yew

Woke up today to the news of the demise of Singapore’s founding father, Mr Lee Kuan Yew. His passing on was all over the Facebook wall. TV was showing clips of his past achievements for this little country.

Just happened that I caught his eldest son, Mr Lee Hsien Loong announced his demise to the country on media. In this announcement, Mr Lee Hsien Loong did it from the position of the Prime Minister of Singapore. That’s when my tear started to build up in my eyes.

He had to announce the news as a Prime Minister not as a son. How tough can it gets to announce the news of his passing father not wearing the son’s hat.

I recalled a friend told me about attending a motivational seminar conducted by a well-known success guru from another country. This triggered a series of questions, “why are we looking elsewhere for motivation? Do we not have any success story in our own place?”

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against motivational seminars and speakers. I used to attended many of them as well. It was just at that moment, I wonder is there a figure in my own country who can truly motivate and inspire by his action alone.

And the answer is YES. The inspiring figure – Mr Lee Kuan Yew; the success story – Singapore.

I won’t be dwelling on how he turned a small fishing village into a metropolitan in a short 30 years.

Looking at the state of Singapore when we were kicked out of Malaysia, no one would have imagined the Singapore in 2015. We were nothing, and we had nothing. No natural resources, no military defence, no economic power. In the entrepreneurial context, Singapore was a start-up and its survival was haning on a thread.

Some entrepreneurs gave up on their start-up because of unfavourable conditions. When the odds are against them, they threw the towel, move back to their comfortable zone.

But not Mr Lee Kuan Yew.

Despite all the unfavourable conditions, he hanged on to the dream of building a better Singapore. He overcame obstacles time and again to give us our home.

He didn’t say, “Ok folks, I did all I can with Malaysia. We don’t have money, we don’t have resources and I need to feed my family. I am going back to practice law. Wish all of you have a good life.”

He did the unthinkable with courage and commitment. He told Singaporeans that “we will survive.” he pulled through the tough times, turning this start-up company into a MNC.

If anyone who faces some circumstances that don’t allow them to prosper, I would seriously suggest they read up on the story of Mr Lee Kuan Yew. If you are blaming your surrounding circumstances, seriously, get over it and deal with it. Your problems are too small compared to his.

Two millions lives were depended on his vision and decisions at the point when all seems lost. The enormous stress that he was facing during those times could have crash any aspiring entrepreneur. I wonder if he ever felt a tiny whiny bit of doubt. I wouldn’t know, but I do know he puts a tiny red dot onto the world map.

This is the inspiration from Mr Lee Kuan Yew.

Thank you, Mr Lee for your inspiration, courage and commitment. Your legacy will lives on.

    Hi Joe,

Yes our dearest founding father, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, is indeed an inspirational, motivational and icon of Singapore. Without his courage, his strong will power in never fear, his determination, his commitment and his perservance when we were separated from the Malaysia, there will be no Singapore as of today. He has given up his whole life for the sake of his responsibility, his commitment and promise to us in giving us this secure and lovely place we can truly call home.

I shared the same thought as you as in many years ago when my peers shared of how stressful and tough life was. I always asked them ‘go compare yourselves with our founding father – the enormous stress, the responsibilities of the millions lives and the future of our nation are all on his shoulder and you would realise that you are no where comparable! Our challenges are just too small to even talk about it.” Some would replied “he is the founding father, the extraordinary man!” and I would tell them this “yes he is but there is one thing you cannot deny and I.e.he too is a human being,! He too have his family and, in fact, he has more as he has the whole country and we people to take care of”.

No words will best described our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation other than a BIG THANK YOU to our dearest founding father for all that you had done for us and the nation. You had helped, changed and touched many people lives. We all owe it to you. We are proud of you! It is time that you rest in peace with Mrs Lee. You will never be forgotten as you will forever stays in our heart!

Despite all that the anti says about him, he was actually a man with heart. He basically wanted to improve the lives of Singaporean. That’s all!
